The Kaduna Mining Development Company (KMDC) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kaduna Branch are exploring strategic collaborations to strengthen the legal and regulatory framework of the Kaduna State mining sector.
As part of this development, the Kaduna Branch Chairman of NBA, Barrister Baba Lawal Aliyu, recently led a delegation on a visit to Engr. Shuaibu Kabir Bello, MD/CEO of KMDC.
Alexandra Ranicar, Public Relations Officer of KMDC, said in a statement that “The visit focused on constructive engagements around legal regulatory compliance through community engagements, sustainable mining practices, corporate governance, community relations and the role of law in promoting responsible resource development in Kaduna State.”
The proposed partnership between the two parties will surely positively impact on the Kaduna State Solid Minerals sector.
KMDC is preparing for a potential listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange this year.
It is also embarking on formalization of artisanal miners into cooperatives, among several other innovative policies.
On its part, the NBA Kaduna Branch, in partnership with the NBA Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE), has initiated intensive training for legal practitioners on mining law and practice.
The sessions focus on intricate mining regulations, legal frameworks, and effective drafting of mining contract clauses.
A synergy between the KMDC and the NBA will position Kaduna State as a leading destination for responsible mining through data-driven governance and robust legal oversight.
