World Bank, Mining Cadastre Office sign agreement to leverage technology in mining

The World Bank has reached an agreement with the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office on the use of technology to enhance the efficiency and transparency of mining operations in the country.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between the Director General of NMCO, Obadiah Simon Nkom and the World Bank delegation held at the MCO headquarters in Abuja.

The two parties explored ways to strengthen the mining sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

The discussions also focused on areas of mutual interest, which included Leveraging on technology to ensure the sector contribute optimally and Promote sustainable pratices in the industry.

They also looked at the environmental protection and social responsibility of the sector and how it could be enhanced .

The delegation from the World Bank which was led by Naora Arfua commended the NMCO’s efforts in transforming the mining sector through digitization and transparent initiatives.

They also highlighted the Bank’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development goals, particularly in the extractives sector.

The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to explore potential partnership opportunities that would benefit the Nigerian mining sector and contribute to the economic growth.
