President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam as the Managing Director, Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL).
The appointment takes effect from 3rd April, 2025 and is in accordance with the provisions of the Certain Political and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) Act 2008 as amended.
Segun Imohiosen, Director, Information & Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation announced the appointment in a press statement.
He said “President Tinubu tasks the appointee to leverage on his wealth of experience in the steel industry in his new assignment in revolutionising the company to generate important upstream and downstream industrial and economic activities that will position the nation as the industrial hub of Africa in line with the diversification drive of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Until his appointment, Nasir served as the Technical Adviser to the Minister of Steel Development as well as the Special Assistant (Academics) to Director General of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) .
He is also a Professor of Geophysics at the University of Abuja, Nigeria, where he has also served as a senior lecturer. His academic work has focused on areas such as aeromagnetic surveys, environmental geophysics, oil and gas, and electrical resistivity, with numerous publications to his name.
Prof. Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam is recognized for his contributions to both academia and industry, with a reputation for being approachable and supportive, as noted by former students from the University of Abuja.
Meanwhile, the Ayegunle Gbede Descendants Union (AGDU) of Kogi State has congratulated one his its illustrious sons, Prof. Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam, on his appointment as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL).
In a congratulatory message signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Adeyanju Yisau, AGDU noted that this important appointment is a testimony to Prof. Nasir’s exceptional leadership qualities, wealth of experience and contributions to the steel industry.
“Your background as a distinguished professor of geophysics, former Head of the Physics Department at Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja and Technical Adviser to the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, makes you uniquely qualified for this role,” he said in the message.
