The Katsina State Executive Council has approved the procurement of modern equipment for mineral exploration and mining in a bid to enhance revenue generation and tackle illegal mining activities across the state.
Managing Director of the Katsina State Mining and Exploration Company, Bello Isah Doro, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the Council’s seventh meeting for 2026, chaired by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
He said the equipment would be deployed to three key locations—Tama, Tandama and Kankara—to strengthen exploration and extraction operations.
According to Doro, the approval is part of deliberate efforts by the state government to reposition the solid minerals sector for improved productivity and economic growth.
“The acquisition of these tools will significantly boost our capacity to explore and harness mineral resources in the state, while also enhancing operational efficiency,” he said.
He added that the initiative would not only increase internally generated revenue but also help address the challenges of illegal mining, which has contributed to insecurity in some parts of the state.
Doro further noted that the move is expected to create employment opportunities, particularly for youths, and support the state’s drive towards economic diversification.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring that mining activities are conducted in line with regulatory standards and best practices.
The development is part of broader decisions reached at the council meeting, underscoring the administration’s commitment to leveraging natural resources for sustainable development.
