The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has successfully apprehended 11 Chinese nationals and seized a substantial array of heavy-duty vehicles and mining equipment in a sweeping clampdown on illicit galamsey activities at Bole/Bamboi in the Savannah Region.
The enforcement action, executed with precision on Friday, July 25, 2025, was prompted by cogent intelligence reports indicating unauthorized small-scale mining operations in the area.
The task force confiscated a fleet of four tipper trucks, a formidable bulldozer, a low-bed truck, a Forland light truck, 10 drums of engine oil, 28 assorted Richlion tyres, and several motorbikes.
The seized items have been transported to the NAIMOS headquarters in Accra for safekeeping and further administrative procedures.
This resolute operation forms part of the government’s comprehensive initiative to tackle the pernicious scourge of illegal mining, which has ravaged farmlands, contaminated rivers, and led to significant forest cover loss in many rural areas.
Minister for Government Communications, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, hailed the operation as a paramount prove to the government’s unrelenting dedication to addressing the environmental and social devastation wrought by galamsey.
“The NAIMOS Task Force continues to carry out operations at galamsey sites in the area,” Mr. Ofosu declared.
The government is urging residents in affected communities to support the task force by reporting suspicious mining activities, thereby fostering a culture of vigilance and collective responsibility.
The 11 arrested Chinese nationals are expected to face prosecution under Ghana’s mining and immigration laws, underscoring the government’s resolve to protect the nation’s natural resources and ensure responsible mining practices that prioritize environmental sustainability and social equity.
