The Director General, Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (NMCO) Engr. Simon Obadiah Nkom has received the Silver Jubilee Life Time Achievement Award from the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME).
The award, presented by Dr Umar Hassan , President of the NSME, was earlier announced at the NSME Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Annual Conference held in Lokoja, Kogi State in October 2026.
The official presentation of the award took place at the MCO conference room in Abuja recently.
Engr Nkom is recognised for his exemplary leadership and tremendous support for NSME and to the mining industry in the country.
Engr Nkom, while receiving the award, said, “It means a lot to me, and not just to me, but to the entire management and staff of MCO.
” Leadership is not by one person. Once you don’t have co-leadership, then you are not leading anyone. And in view of that, it is the support from my colleagues that makes life and leadership much easier and successful for me.”
Addressing the President NSME, he said: “I can tell you with a very, very loud voice that I was not expecting this award, but it’s going to have a very special place in my heart and in my honour.
And this is something that I cherish and appreciate, with this recognition We will continue to give back to the society as much as possible. I pray that NSME will continue to grow from strength to strength.”
While presenting the award of a Lifetime Achievement to the DG MCO, the President of NSME said, “we are giving you the award in recognition of your exemplary leadership and exceptional contribution to NSME, mining and mineral processing engineering in Nigeria. We are ever grateful and thankful to Almighty God for giving you the privileges and blessings that enable you to continue to support societies including ours. And we are highly appreciative of the support that you have rendered to us.”
The president said he came to present the award as approved by the Council of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers .
