*Dr Alake signs the Charter document, with Moses Micheal Engadu, Secretary-General of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group looking on
The minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, today signed the Charter of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) on behalf of the the federal government.
On January 9, 2024 on the sidelines of the Ministerial Roundtable of the third Future Minerals Forum held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, African Ministers of Minerals and Mining met and established the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG).
The AMSG, an initiative to foster cooperation in the sustainable and transparent development of the continent’s mineral resources, seeks to promote exploration, extraction, local beneficiation, and commercialization of minerals, ensuring a secure and sustainable supply chain while driving socio-economic transformation and supporting Africa’s energy transition.
Malawi and Chad are four of the African countries that had previously signed the Charter to secure their membership of the AMSG.
At a brief ceremony ahead of the signing, Dr Alake announced that federal agencies, inuding the Ministry of Justice, had studied and played the Charter ahead of the signing ceremony.
