The Miners Association of Nigeria has pledged moral and institutional support for the forthcoming Nigeria Mining Tax Summit, while promising to mobilise miners and other industry stakeholders across the country for effective participation.
The Miners Magazine delegation secured the commitment of the Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) towards the successful organisation of the Nigeria Mining Tax Summit following a courtesy visit to the Association’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
The National President of MAN, Oba Ayanleke Ayandele, who is the Onibise of Komuland, was represented by the Association’s Treasurer, Mr Tope Adebanjo. He commended the delegation for the initiative and pledged the Association’s full support for the Summit financially, socially and morally.
Adebanjo, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of The Laurel School of Mine, expressed MAN’s readiness to collaborate with its branches across the country to mobilise mining stakeholders and ensure broad-based participation in the Summit.
He identified the rescheduling of the Summit as an opportunity to engage more industry players, stressing the need for miners to acquire adequate knowledge of taxation and understand relevant laws governing the sector.
According to him, improved awareness of tax obligations and miners’ legal rights would help operators comply with existing regulations, avoid excessive taxation and develop a better understanding of their responsibilities within the mining industry.
He further emphasised the importance of creating awareness and promoting constructive engagement between government and mining operators to strengthen the sector.
The Summit, organised by Miners Communications Limited, the Publisher of The Miners Magazine in conjunction with Secom Limited, an audit and tax Consultants and Lambard Consulting is designed to provide a platform for discussions on taxation, fiscal policies, regulatory frameworks and investment opportunities in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
The organisers, in their address presented during the visit, explained that the Summit would encourage a balanced conversation between government and industry stakeholders, while promoting responsible mining, tax compliance, environmental sustainability and national economic development.
The organisers also appealed to MAN to assist in nationwide mobilisation, provide financial and material assistance, offer institutional guidance and promote responsible mining practices.
They noted that the additional time provided by the rescheduling would allow for wider stakeholder participation and better coordination towards achieving a more impactful event.
MAN officials present during the visit included Ms Bilkisu Audu, Administrative Secretary of the Association, and Dr Simon Ogar Adogba, the Secretary FCT Chapter, MAN.
The engagement is expected to strengthen collaboration between Miners Communications Limited and MAN, particularly in mobilising miners across Nigeria to participate in the Summit and contribute to discussions on building a more transparent, responsible and globally competitive mining industry.
