Miners Association of Nigeria endorses NESG plan to domesticate African Mining Vision’s private sector compact – Ayanleke

The Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) is prepared to work with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group in its efforts to domicile the Private Sector Compact of the African Mining Vision in Nigeria.

President of MAN, Mr Ayanleke announced this on Monday during his address at a ceremony to celebrate the 30th Nigerian Economic Summit, said the compact would serve as a policy guide for the Nigerian Mining Week.

The address reads in full:

On behalf of Miners Association of Nigeria, I wish to congratulate the Nigerian Economic Summit Group on the occasion of the 30th Nigerian Economic Summit and to also salute the courage of the Mining Thematic Group of its Manufacturing and Mining Policy Commission, in its efforts to domicile the Private Sector Compact of the African Mining Vision in Nigeria.
Considering the rationale behind the launching of this continental initiative and its appealing objectives, which are tailored towards ensuring that the natural endowments under our landscape are judiciously explored to wean Africa and Africans out of poverty, Miners Association of Nigeria, as a solid group of indigenous private players in the Nigerian mining ecosystem, is left with no choice other than not only to endorse this initiative, but to pledge our support and commitments to all actionable plans and strategies for its actualization.
In other words, we are in full support of the domiciliation of the African Mining Vision Private Sector Compact as a policy guide in the Nigerian Mining industry.
We shall, however, be quick to observe that the effective adoption of the AMV PSC will be premised on some principles, among which are:
1. A sustained and strong legal and regulatory environment which will not be subject to the whims and caprices of succeeding office holders at both national and subnational levels;
2. Transparency in the judicious utilization of all injections of grants and loans, either from budgetary allocations or from funding agencies;
3. Robust engagements of stakeholders in the formulation, review and implementation of policies;
4. Prior consideration for the promotion of indigenous miners as the bedrock of the industry, thereby protecting our mining industry against foreign domination and economic colonization;
5. Encourage industrialization around our mineral resources, thereby taking our value-addition conversations beyond the level of pulverization to local industrial uses for massive job and wealth creation.
It is our hope, that as this conversation progresses, stakeholders will come up with more strategies that will translate our dreams into the reality of a mining sector that will support the diversification and broadening of our national economy.
Thank you for listening and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
