Kano State Ministry of Solid Mineral and Natural Resources expressed readiness to collaborating with both local and international donor agencies in formulating good policies that will culminate to enhancing good governance in the sector.
Commissioner of the Ministry, Alhaji Safiyanu Hamza Kachako made the assertion in his office, Monday at an interactive meeting with the representatives of Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE) led by Dr. Garba Bala Magaji and accompanied by Hajiya Aishatu Abubakar.

Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE) is a 48-month programme
funded by UK International Development. It aims to support coalitions to influence the government to
resolve Nigeria’s climate and governance problems affecting the poorest and most vulnerable and hold
them accountable for the country’s climate change objectives.
Alhaji Safiyanu Hamza explained that the ministry will cooperate with PACE to be guided on formulating good relevant policies, Data collection, community mitigations, revenue drive all aimed at promoting good governance in the sector and the State at large.
Dr. Garba Bala Magaji who led the representatives to the ministry, pointed out that the program is ready to proactively support the sector in terms of capacity building, job description, budget preparations, human resource management, providing solid mineral harnessing tools and ensuring an attractive business environment for investors.
Dr. Magaji who doubles as the program consultant added that mining remains a major contributor to the climate change challenge, therefore advised the ministry to leverage on such challenges affecting mitigation, adaptation and resilience to get access to alot of international fora and support.
To round off the interactive discussion, Director Solid Mineral Exploration Mal. Muhammad Bala and the Director Environmental Safety, Protection and Control Mal. Sha’aya’u Jibrin also added some useful inputs to the discussion while the Permanent Secretary, Engineer Mansur Yakubu assured the representatives of PACE a speedy positive response accordingly.
